Are you a designer looking for a new challenge? Our Spring 2022 cohort seeks passionate and talented individuals to join our associate teams and tackle exploratory, out-of-the-box problems. Check out our website to learn more about the exciting projects our design associates work on. Applications close Sunday, April 9th, @ 11:59 PM PST.

📝 Application Basics

The application process to join our spring cohort consists of 2 parts — the design challenge and the written application.

1️⃣ Design Challenge

This is a short challenge that should take around 4-5 hours. We want to see how you think and solve problems with this activity. You will submit a slide deck going through your process in the application link below.

2️⃣ Written Application

We want to get to know more about you and why you're interested in joining Design Interactive! This will take about 15-20 minutes to answer.

Please note:

• Submissions that are incomplete or after the deadline will not be reviewed.
• Look over the application link — this is where you'll submit your written questions and the link to your slide deck to the Design Challenge.
• After the application deadline, we will review them and email interview invitations.

UC Davis Recreation App is the main app university students use to gain access to the ARC facility and help make reservations for all Campus Recreation programs. However, this app is too cluttered and makes it difficult for students to find relevant app features to use.

How might we redesign a feature of the UC Davis Campus Recreation app to increase user engagement and retention by providing a streamlined, intuitive user experience?

Helpful tips

• Take your time to explore the app and discover all the functions the UC Davis Rec App offers
• Consider the different uses students have for the app
  • e.g., viewing ARC timings, registering for classes, and gaining access into the ARC, etc.
• We don't expect drastic changes. Focus on solving one or a few pain points that will enhance the student’s experience.

Guidelines

• We want to see how you think and solve problems! Take on a human-centered design process to this problem.
• Please design a digital solution using a tool of your choice (Figma, Adobe Xd, Sketch, etc). We recommend using Figma — it's free and easy to get started with.
• We know there's limited time, and we don't expect anything big, but be sure to do some research to understand where to start designing — this can be interviewing a few people, doing online research, or more.
